Frequently Asked Questions

You may have a lot of questions about how a destination wedding works and if it’s right for you. We’ve put together some of the more common questions that we get from couples just like you.

Q. Is a destination wedding less expensive than having a wedding at home?
A. Yes, and no. It depends on where you want to get married and the time of year. TIP- generally the first two weeks of November and December are cheaper for travel than the rest of the year.

Q. Where is the best destination wedding resort?
A. We listen to your wedding vision and recommend resorts that we feel will be a good fit. We only work with resorts that can consistently deliver high quality weddings.

Q. Who pays for what?
A. Guests pick up the tab for their travel and hotel, just like a wedding at home. Couples usually pay their own way and sometimes the family of the bride pays for the wedding package.

Q. How do we gracefully let our guests know we are planning an “adults only” wedding?
A. You can choose an adults only resort and let your guests know what the resort policy is with regard to children. TIP: Send formal invitations addressed to the adults in the household.

Q. What is a vow renewal ceremony?
A. A vow renewal or symbolic ceremony is used when a couple is already legally married. TIP – vow renewal ceremonies are cheaper than a legal ceremony in Mexico

Q. What is included in the resort-wedding package?
A. Packages vary, but for the most part what is included is a decorated wedding site, personal wedding coordinator, officiate fee, bride bouquet, groom boutonniere, champagne toast, a small wedding cake and limited photography. You will take on additional costs by adding a cocktail party, wedding dinner, ceremony video, additional flowers, decorations and live music.

Q. Do we need a wedding planner?
A. That depends on you! Organizing a wedding can be a huge time commitment that most people just don’t have. Most couples find that they don’t have the time or energy to deal with the resort, airlines, transfers, guests and onsite wedding planner.

Q. Where does A Ticket to Paradise plan weddings?
A. We plan weddings in Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean at the finest destination wedding resorts.

Q. How far in advance should we start planning?
A. At least 8 months to a year. TIP – Some resorts only have one wedding per day, so if you have a popular wedding date, then it’s important to reserve your date early. It’s also kind to give your guests as much time as possible to make work and travel arrangements.

Q. What is an all-inclusive resort and why do you recommend having our wedding there?
A. All-inclusive resorts are great for destination weddings. A single price includes your lodging, meals, drinks, entertainment, water sports, taxes and tips. Your guests will know exactly how much their cost will be in advance.

Q. When should I send out my save the date cards?
A. As soon as you have your ceremony date confirmed with the resort.

Q. I have more questions!
A. Great, we have answers!
